The poet laureate of Grand Rapids, Michigan, from 2007 to 2010, Rodney Torreson is the author of four books of poetry. A fifth book, The Jukebox Was the Jury of Their Love, is forthcoming from Finishing Line Press. It is a full-length collection of poems pertaining to rock music, with poems about the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Van Morrison, Lucinda Williams, and many other recording artists. In addition, Torreson has new work scheduled to appear in Artful Dodge, Canary, Miramar, Poet Lore, Seems, and Tar River Poetry. Torreson says his poem was written about living in the Selby/Dale area during 1972, while attending Concordia College in St. Paul, where he was a student from 1969 to 1973, then again during the 1975–1976 academic year.
